Private-Samenspende.at and Y Factor compared

Y Factor is the new app from Cryos founder Ole Schou, dubbed a “Tinder for sperm donors” by the press. How does it differ from us?

Y Factor is the newest name among sperm donation apps. Behind it is Ole Schou, founder and owner of Cryos, the world's largest sperm bank. It launched in mid-2025 in the UK and Denmark and rolled out across the EU in autumn 2025. In Austria the app has barely arrived: Austrian daily DER STANDARD counted 62 registered users in August 2026, ten of them verified donors, and named our platform's existing presence here as a possible reason. The bigger difference is the model, though. On Y Factor, ID checks, extended filters, and unlimited likes sit inside a subscription from €19.99 a month. With us, verification is standard for everyone and everything stays free.

The difference in short

Y Factor brings decades of sperm-bank industry experience and looks professional accordingly. Three things separate us. First, money: the free “Explore” tier is heavily limited, while ID checks, filters, donation history, and unlimited likes cost €19.99 to €29.99 a month. With us, everything is free. Second, verification: according to DER STANDARD, no identity check is needed to create a Y Factor profile, and even an AI-generated photo is accepted. With us, selfie and ID are the baseline, for everyone. Third, Austria: the app also offers “compensated” donations, which are not permitted here, and had just 62 users in the country in August 2026.

What Y Factor is good for

  • A modern app for iOS and Android, with chat, video calls, and a shared planning space.
  • International reach, with the largest user groups in the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
  • Donation route and the donor's role are asked up front, which sets clear expectations.
  • Behind the app stands Ole Schou, founder of the world's largest sperm bank.

What we are good for

  • Permanently free, while Y Factor's full feature set costs €19.99 to €29.99 a month.
  • Selfie and ID verification for every profile, not as a subscription feature.
  • Built around Austria and the FMedG: unpaid donation only, no “compensated” option.
  • Already established in Austria, with around 270 registered profiles.

Frequent questions

  • Is Y Factor free?

The “Explore” base tier is free but heavily limited: few likes, no donation history, no extended filters. The full feature set including ID checks costs €29.99/month for recipients and €19.99/month for donors. Our platform is permanently and completely free.

  • Does Y Factor work in Austria?

Barely, so far. DER STANDARD counted 62 registered users in August 2026, ten of them verified donors. The app itself points to a launch here “soon” and suggests widening the search radius. Around 270 profiles are registered on our platform.

  • Can I arrange a paid sperm donation via Y Factor?

No. The app does offer a “compensated” option, but in Austria a private sperm donation must remain unpaid. Only reimbursement of documented expenses is allowed, such as tests or travel.
